July 18, 2019

Lydia Lucile Monson--Born July 18, 2019, 8:36pm.  She weighed 7 lbs 14 oz and was 19.5" long.  She had some problems with jaundice, so we had to stay in the hospital for a few extra days, but she is doing well now.  :)  Kaylee is loving being a big sister and Tyler is loving holding his little baby.  As for me, I'm doing well, just exhausted.  But every night she sleeps a little bit longer, so hopefully the exhaustion goes away soon!

Summer 2019

Kaylee broke her tooth while riding her bike.  She was so sad and for weeks afterwards anytime anything was by her face she cried because she said she was protecting her teeth :(

All dressed up and ready to go explore Marsing with Grandad!

Kaylee wanted to help Daddy fix the lawn mower

Kaylee is a little fish this year.  At the beginning of summer, she jumped in the pool without anyone noticing.  We thought she was going to drown, but she kicked her legs so hard and fast that she kept her face out of the water until help arrived.  We were impressed, but scared.  She was quickly taught the rules of the pool.  A stark contrast from last year when she was too scared to even go in the pool.

Anna, Elsa and Belle came to Daddy's summer work party.  She loved looking at them, but they were a little scary to approach and talk to.  Eventually she settled with no talking and just a picture :)

Backlog: Trip to the Temple April 2019

Kaylee is obsessed with the temple and getting married in the temple.  We decided to take her on a Sunday (mostly so she wouldn't go running inside and disturb the patrons).  As soon as we got to the Meridian, Idaho temple she ran to the doors and tried to open them.  When she discovered they were locked she cried for at least 20 minutes because she couldn't go inside and marry Daddy.  This girl is just in love with her Daddy, he can do no wrong :)  Eventually, she let us walk around the temple and take a few pictures, but she still brings up the fact that she couldn't go inside yet.

Backlog: Daddy Daughter Dance

Every year, our town of Kuna holds a Daddy Daughter Dance as a fundraiser.  Kaylee had been looking forward to it for months and would ask every day whether it was "today" or not.  Finally the day arrived.  She was so excited.  Tyler bought her flowers (which she wanted to carry around with her all night--she said they were her wedding flowers and that she and Daddy were getting married).  Her favorite parts were: 1) Her wedding flowers, 2) She got to wear her Cinderella dress and a dress up cape, 3) Krispy Kreme doughnuts, 4) There were other girls dressed as princesses.

Backlog: My Birthday

For my birthday I was sick with morning sickness.  I didn't want to do anything and Tyler, as a surprise, had taken the day off.  So we decided to do something low key that would entertain Kaylee without me having to chase her all over.  We went to the "Children's Museum".  Don't ask me why it's called the Children's Museum when it's just a bunch of rooms with themes and toys.  But, she had a blast and decided that she wants to be a doctor when she grows up.

What a cute vet!

Backlog: Kaylee is 3!

Kaylee turned 3!  Yay!  She told me for over a year that she wanted a dinosaur princess birthday party.  Then, the week before her birthday she changed her mind and decided she wanted a Cinderella birthday.  Thank goodness I hadn't gotten anything dinosaur for her birthday.  She wanted the whole kit and kaboodle--Cinderella hair, cake, everything.  Good thing her Nana knew what she liked and got her a Cinderella dress as her birthday present.  She was in heaven!
Cinderella Hair!

Crashing Mom and Dad's date night the day before her birthday, she got a free ice cream!

Yes, she dresses herself now and attempts to do her hair :)

Backlog: Christmas 2018

I am trying to catch up on posts I should have done a long time ago.  This is from Christmas 2018.  Kaylee was so excited about re-enacting the nativity scene at Grandma and Grandpa Monson.  She got to be Mary.  Max Rambo, her cousin was pretty funny.  He had watched a lot of the living scriptures videos and he wanted to be Herod.  So started talking in his scariest voice and said Herod's part from the movie almost word for word!

March 2019

It's hard to believe that it's been almost a year since the last time we've updated the blog.  There have been many changes and things have been getting better for us at least for the time being.  Life certainly has a way of keeping us on our toes.

The biggest news for us is that we are adding another little girl to our family in July.  This has been a much prayed for child and after a slightly rough start, everything is going going well.  Kaylee is excited and wants to name the baby Sophia (after the show Sophia the First).  Tyler is willing do Sophie instead of Sophia...but I would rather have Lydia.  So, we'll see what ends up happening.  We wanted to do family names as middle names, and because Kaylee's middle name, McKenzie, is from Tyler's family, I get to pick the middle name for this little one.  We are thinking Lucile after my great grandmother.

In addition to getting a baby sister, Kaylee is also getting a new room.  She was in the smallest room of the house, but with a new baby sister (who she will end up sharing a bedroom with eventually), they get to move into the second biggest bedroom.  Kaylee is excited to pick a paint color and to pick some new things to go in her room.  She will also be moving off the floor (her mattress has been on the floor to keep her from hurting herself if she falls off), which she is not as thrilled about.  But, she is eager to have the baby in her room with her.  She will be a great big sister :)

Over the last year, there have been a lot of changes in the house as well, I've painted most of the rooms now (including the ceilings--who puts tan on all the walls and all the ceilings!?!).  I've reupholstered one of my wing-back chairs (see the craft section).  We've made some book shelves that attach to the walls and a spice rack for inside the door of the pantry.  My next project is to get the closet in the girl's room organized.  I think I'm going to add another shelf and another hanging bar so that I can keep their stuff separate in some way.  We'll see though...

Cooking has been a wild adventure this last year.  Tyler got an Indian style cookbook and has been cooking up lots of yummy curries.  The only one that flopped was the fish curry...that one was nasty.  He also finished building a wood burning pizza oven.  So we've been having pizza parties until it got too cold.  He'll have to fix it up again this spring though because the finish on it got destroyed by the cold this winter.  I've also attempted French macaroons, which turned out pretty good...although I'm not sure what they were supposed to be like since I've never had one :)  Lemon and poppyseed has been my favorite so far.

Kaylee is a normal three-nager.  We thought we might get away with having a nice, sweet tempered little three year old--but no.  She's crazy and moody--especially this last week because she's been sick--everything is a drama.  Lately, if I say no, she's been in the phase where she will just yell at me that she doesn't like me anymore and she wants me to leave the house :(  I've been trying to teach her that it isn't me she doesn't like, but the fact that I've said no.  She doesn't get it though, so I just end up telling her that I love her and letting her have her tantrum.  Then I give her a big hug afterwards.  It's not fun, but hopefully she'll grow out of it soon.  She's also obsessed with princesses and pink--where did she come from!?! ;)

Let's see, what else has happened?  Tyler has been getting more responsibility at work, he's been sent a couple times to be a recruiter at colleges in Utah.  He loves board games and cooking.  I'm still working on tons of DIY projects at a time, although, being pregnant now, Tyler won't let me do as many.  Rightly, he says no spray paint, no polyurethane, no sealing in lead paint and a few other things--so those projects are waiting in the wings.  I have had him do a couple of my projects, but he whines too much and it's not as much fun for me.  Kaylee is doing at-home preschool and doing really well.  She is also doing a music/dance class and an art class (both free at the local library.  Love libraries) she loves both of them!

I think that's about it.  We're all doing well and having some fun along the way!  :)
